I Hate Waiting

I Hate Waiting

By Belle Touchton
The Missionary Dog

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. Ps 37:7 NIV

Where is Mommy? I’ve been waiting for a week. Has she forgotten about me? Why didn’t she take me with her? It is boring here. The dog next to me won’t stop crying. What is her problem? Her mommy must not have the “no whining” rule. The people here are nice but I miss Mommy. If you see her, would you remind her that I’m still waiting?

I knew I was in trouble when Mommy and Daddy packed suitcases. When they both pack, they both leave. Suitcases mean airplanes because we don’t use suitcases in the camper. I hate it when they pack suitcases.

Mommy won’t take me on airplanes. She says I’m too big to travel up top with her. She says it is cold and dark under the airplane. She says I would be scared and that I’m better off at the doggie hotel. That is hard to believe.

I could tell Mommy didn’t like leaving me so why did she? Don’t I matter to her anymore? She probably found another dog she likes better. I’ll bet that other dog is sleeping in her bed. What if that other dog is playing with my toys? Maybe Mommy is never coming back.

No…wait…that isn’t right. Mommy loves me. She always comes back to get me. Waiting doesn’t last forever. If she says I won’t like traveling on airplanes, she is probably right. She knows what is best for me. I know I am important to her. She wouldn’t let another dog play with my toys. I guess I’ll just have to be still and wait more patiently.

I still hate waiting but maybe the time will pass quicker if I help the crying dog next to me. She probably misses her mommy too. After all, I am Belle, the Missionary Dog.

The Missionary Dog

My name is Belle. I am the Missionary Dog. That is me sitting in my prayer chair. Mommy calls it her prayer chair but every morning I race her to it. I travel the country with my Mommy. We lead people to Christ. She hands out quarters but I like her pocket full of treats much better than her pocket full of quarters. My job is to look cute, do tricks, and entertain people. I also take care of my mommy - which is my biggest job. Her job is to tell people about Jesus. We spend several months a year living in our camper, Halleluiah.

Traveling is Halleluiah is a lot of work. Halleluiah breaks down, throws things at me, and occasionally locks us in. I like being with my Mommy but I miss my Daddy and my cat Rascal. I'll tell you a little about my life and I want to hear about yours. Maybe you can explain to me why people have so much trouble loving God. Don't they know how much better life would go if they would stop worrying about all that stuff they talk about and just love God with all their hearth, soul, mind, and strength.
